Jim Sherwood is entering his third season on the Thunder staff and this will be his first as the team's manager.
He is currently employed full-time in the Rock Valley College athletics department where he is the head softball coach and assistant women's basketball coach.
Sherwood believes strongly in the teaching of fundamentals, playing solid defense, scratching out runs and taking advantage of opponents' mistakes.
Sherwood is originally from Coffeyville, Kan., where he attended and later coached baseball at Coffeyville Community College. Sherwood was named "Who’s Who Among American Junior Colleges" for his academic pursuits and all-conference in both football and baseball. He was also named to the conference all-tournament team in 1982 for his excellence on the baseball field. He finished college at Emporia State University in Kansas, graduating in 1985 with a double major in Physical Education and Health. Sherwood then moved to Illinois in 1987 and began his teaching career that same year.
In his spare time, he enjoys fishing, camping, and spending time with his family. Sherwood has been married to his wife, Nancy, for 20 years and they have two daughters, Amanda, 16, and Abby, 8.
